Wonderful world of updates and wine!

It has been only a couple days, and I am already enjoying Ubuntu 10.10

I am surprised to see that Ubuntu tells me when/if a driver of mine is outdated, and then asks me if I would like to update it, along with random updates to Ubuntu in general.  I have yet to have any significant problems, (then again, I have only been on it for a few days...) as compared to my experience with Windows, where it seemed as if any update windows forced upon my computer, slowly began to eat away at my computer...

As of right now, with the very few programs I have installed, I can pretty much do what ever I did on Windows...(without random freezing...)

A program which I found very helpful with Ubuntu is Wine (an emulator to run/install windows programs on linux)

To install Wine
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.3
With this I have successfully installed World of Warcraft (sadly my one addiction on the computer)

Also, if you are unable to run an executable
-right click on the .exe
-properties
-permissions tab
-Allow executing file as program should be checked

Hope this helps! :3

The start to a wonderful learning experience...

As I sat at my computer one night, I began feeling constrained by Windows.

Constrained, In the sense that there is so much to do, but not enough money to actually do what you want.

Unless browsing the internet, writing in Word, or checking emails, is all you would do, there aren't many great programs available for -free-....

So, I began my search for programs and possibly a new OS, and I stumbled upon Ubuntu (which is packed with ALOT of open source goodies, right from first start-up)

Why haven't I heard of this sooner!

Anyways, As I learn how to use Ubuntu I will post anything important I have learned.

So sit tight! Check back often, and enjoy! :D

EDIT: Heres my desktop as of right now... :3
